Shelby’s Second Chance
Rescued with love in Huntersville
“It only takes one moment of compassion to change a life.”
It was just another drive down Gilead Road one evening in Huntersville when Stephanie spotted something unusual — a small, scruffy shadow darting across the lanes. Traffic rushed past; Stephanie’s heart stopped. Without hesitation, she turned her car around.
One of Stephanie’s wonderful neighbors brought her a humane trap and some wet cat food. Stephanie worked quickly in the dark. It didn’t take long before the frightened kitten, later named Shelby, was unable to resist the lure of the wet food and entered the trap. Up close, it was clear how much Shelby needed help — she was malnourished, dirty, and scared. Stephanie could tell Shelby hadn’t known much kindness before.
Stephanie contacted friend and Friends of Feral Felines volunteer, Grey, for help. Grey secured an appointment for Shelby at SnipWell, generously donated by Eden through Angels to the Animals. Getting Shelby spayed ensures she will not contribute to the endless cycle of kittens born to suffer on the streets.
Thanks to the quick action of everyone, Shelby is thriving — playing, purring, napping in laps, and finally enjoying warmth, safety, and love in her new forever home. Her story reminds us that every rescue starts with someone who chooses to stop, care, and act.
